Our team applied some of the core human-computer interaction methods to analyze parents of children who are transitioning from being dependent teens to independent young adults. The accumulated research and user studies led the design of Over2U, a mobile application that helps empty nesters to declutter their house while establishing new relationship with their children that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. Through this application, we hope to address several aspects we uncovered:

  • Respect means collaborative communication
  • Images enable decision-making
  • Expert advice can enable process and progress
  • Progress is easily arrested by obstacles
  • Support for asynchronous communication is crucial

Each feature of the application is explained in detail and justified with the user data we gathered.
